Background

At Dendrobium Mine, a landslip occurred during heavy rainfall in March 2022. South32 has been diligently addressing the hazards on the affected slope since this occurred. Subsequent investigations have revealed a potential risk of additional slip movements, emphasiing the need for intervention to stabalise the slope surrounding the Pit Top.

Works for Part B of this project, located at the Dendrobium Car Park, commenced from 13 December 2023 and it is expected to take approximately 4 months to complete, weather and ground conditions permitting.

The works will occur Monday to Friday between 7am and 5pm, and Saturdays from 8am to 1pm.

How the activities will affect you

  • Work may be noisy on occasions. We will endeavour to minimise this as much as possible as per the Dendrobium Noise Management Plan. This will include, but not be limited to installation of noise barriers, controlling noise at the source, selecting associated plant with reduced noise emissions, turning off machinery when not in use, using smart or squawker-type reversing alarms, conducting noise management training and reviewing data from the real-time noise monitoring system for ongoing noise management.
  • Access to the work sites will be via Cordeaux Road and Stones Road. There will truck activity from the Mine to the KVLF during the works, particularly while sediment is transported to the area (up to two trucks daily). All truck movements must adhere to a curfew as per a Driver’s Code of Conduct and Dendrobium Mine’s Traffic Management Plan.
  • Tree trimming will be required to ensure the safety work site access.
